About the Department

To harness the potential of textile industry in Coimbatore which is often identified with its sobriquet “Manchester of South India”, and to augment the contribution to fashion industry, Kumaraguru College of Technology started the Textile Engineering Department in the year 1995. The department has 13 professionally well qualified and highly experienced faculty members including 6 Doctoral faculty members. It is well-equipped with modern day facilities in its laboratories to provide ample opportunity to the students to explore their penchant for learning and innovation in the very supportive environment of Coimbatore.

The Department of Textile Technology is committed to generate new knowledge by engaging in avant-garde research and promoting academic growth by offering technologically advanced undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. The department is vibrant in developing human potential to its fullest extent so that academically capable and technologically sound can emerge in a range of textile professions. The department is undertaking collaborative projects which offer opportunities for long-term interaction with academia and industry. The department offers curriculum of International standards with excellent teaching by well experienced and highly qualified faculty, well equipped laboratory with state-of-the-art machinery and by undertaking memorandums of understanding with leading textile industries at the national and international levels.

About the Department

The Department of Science and Humanities encompasses four disciplines namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English. The Department offers courses in basic sciences and mathematics in addition to communicative English which bridges the gap between the secondary education and engineering study and thereby lays a solid foundation for pursuing core and allied engineering courses in the higher semesters. The Department of Science and Humanities hones the basic engineering skill sets and mentors the budding engineering aiding a smooth transition from school to college.

The Department of Science and Humanities, since the inception of the college in 1984, has been imparting fundamental knowledge in all facets of Science and Humanities. A team of 60+ well-experienced faculty members with a keen interest towards innovative approach in academics and research have been tirelessly striving to impart value-based technical education.

About the Department

The department of Mechatronics Engineering was established in the year 1999, offering B.E. in Mechatronics Engineering. The department has well developed laboratory infrastructure which bridges the gap between industry and academia. It also provides consultancy services to the industries. The department regularly invites people from the industry to interact with the faculty and students to update them with the current know how’s and also to make them understand the needs of various Industries. To prepare industry ready engineers of future, the department has a right blend of faculty members having expertise in Mechanical, Electronics and Mechatronics engineering.

In the world of miniaturization, the concept of specialization in engineering is slowly disappearing and the industry needs engineers having a clear comprehension of Mechanical, Electronics and Computing. The discipline of Mechatronics engineering has evolved to meet the very high dynamic requirements of industries and our graduates are having all the necessary attributes expected not only by the industry but also in the research and development. Since Mechatronics engineering is relatively a new discipline in India, the industry and academia started recognizing the importance of Mechatronics engineers. In a nutshell, the future is only with Mechatronics and there will be no engineering without Mechatronics. We are very proud of producing the engineers of the future and helping rewrite the definition of engineering.

About the Department

The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1984. It is equipped with state-of-the-art workshops, laboratories and computing facilities. The department has highly qualified and experienced faculty members. Accredited by NBA in 2019 THE Department has been recognized as a research centre by Anna University from April 2003. The faculty members actively engage in research and constantly publish papers in International and National Journals. Guest lectures and industrial visits are periodically arranged for the students to enhance their curriculum. It strives for all round excellence in students, encouraging them in all extra-curricular activities.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering being one of the versatile departments of the Institute with well-equipped laboratories provides hands on training to all the students at under graduate, post graduate and PhD levels. The Department lays emphasis primarily on preparing the students to accomplish focused expertise in areas of their choice. It helps in transforming our students with a perfect balance of intellectual and real-world experiences that help them in serving the demands from our society. About the Department

The Department of Information Technology was established in 1998 with the objective of imparting quality education in the field of Information Technology. Since its inception, the department has expanded and grown in terms of dissemination of knowledge within and outside curriculum and skill development activities. The Curriculum review and modernization of the labs are conducted constantly so as to keep the students updated with the latest trends at the global level. The classrooms are well equipped with all modern electronic audio-visual facilities.

The Department of Information Technology lays greater emphasis on training the students to achieve specialised skills in domains of their choice. The department ensures a career oriented future through Industry internships, certification courses, and workshops. Industry designed courses such as Mobile applications programming, Business intelligence and its applications, Building enterprise applications are offered to make our students updated and special care is taken to encourage the young entrepreneurs with start-up ideas. The department records over 95% placements every year. Our students are encouraged to look around them to identify any social issues and our faculty guides them to develop technology for solving those issues. Winning national awards from Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology and Institute of Engineers (India) have increased the enthusiasm of our students in implementing these assistive technology projects.

About the Department

‘Trend’, ‘Vogue’, ‘Fashion’, by whatever word you call it, is one word which has people behind it and has a telling effect on the word ‘era’ as far as clothing and grooming is concerned. Understandably, the Department of Fashion Technology was constituted in the year 2002 and is the first in the country to offer B.Tech. Fashion Technology programme, M.Tech. Apparel Technology and Ph.D. programme under Anna University Chennai. The objective of the department is to equip the students with core competencies and skills in Clothing Technology and Fashion and hone them as competent professionals for the Apparel and Fashion Industry.

The Under Graduate program in Fashion Technology offers extensive learning in textile basics, Textile manufacture, fashion and apparel design and development, Testing and quality control, Marketing and Merchandising, Fashion Retail Management and Visual Merchandising.
