About the Department

To harness the potential of textile industry in Coimbatore which is often identified with its sobriquet “Manchester of South India”, and to augment the contribution to fashion industry, Kumaraguru College of Technology started the Textile Engineering Department in the year 1995. The department has 13 professionally well qualified and highly experienced faculty members including 6 Doctoral faculty members. It is well-equipped with modern day facilities in its laboratories to provide ample opportunity to the students to explore their penchant for learning and innovation in the very supportive environment of Coimbatore.

About the Department

The Department of Science and Humanities encompasses four disciplines namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English. The Department offers courses in basic sciences and mathematics in addition to communicative English which bridges the gap between the secondary education and engineering study and thereby lays a solid foundation for pursuing core and allied engineering courses in the higher semesters. The Department of Science and Humanities hones the basic engineering skill sets and mentors the budding engineering aiding a smooth transition from school to college.

The department of Mechatronics Engineering was established in the year 1999, offering B.E. in Mechatronics Engineering. The department has well developed laboratory infrastructure which bridges the gap between industry and academia. It also provides consultancy services to the industries. The department regularly invites people from the industry to interact with the faculty and students to update them with the current know how’s and also to make them understand the needs of various Industries. To prepare industry ready engineers of future, the department has a right blend of faculty members having expertise in Mechanical, Electronics and Mechatronics engineering.

In the world of miniaturization, the concept of specialization in engineering is slowly disappearing and the industry needs engineers having a clear comprehension of Mechanical, Electronics and Computing. The discipline of Mechatronics engineering has evolved to meet the very high dynamic requirements of industries and our graduates are having all the necessary attributes expected not only by the industry but also in the research and development. Since Mechatronics engineering is relatively a new discipline in India, the industry and academia started recognizing the importance of Mechatronics engineers. The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1984. It is equipped with state-of-the-art workshops, laboratories and computing facilities. The department has highly qualified and experienced faculty members. Accredited by NBA in 2019 THE Department has been recognized as a research centre by Anna University from April 2003. The faculty members actively engage in research and constantly publish papers in International and National Journals. Guest lectures and industrial visits are periodically arranged for the students to enhance their curriculum. The Department of Information Technology was established in 1998 with the objective of imparting quality education in the field of Information Technology. Since its inception, the department has expanded and grown in terms of dissemination of knowledge within and outside curriculum and skill development activities. The Curriculum review and modernization of the labs are conducted constantly so as to keep the students updated with the latest trends at the global level. The classrooms are well equipped with all modern electronic audio-visual facilities.

‘Trend’, ‘Vogue’, ‘Fashion’, by whatever word you call it, is one word which has people behind it and has a telling effect on the word ‘era’ as far as clothing and grooming is concerned. Understandably, the Department of Fashion Technology was constituted in the year 2002 and is the first in the country to offer B.Tech. Fashion Technology programme, M.Tech. Apparel Technology and Ph.D. programme under Anna University Chennai. The objective of the department is to equip the students with core competencies and skills in Clothing Technology and Fashion and hone them as competent professionals for the Apparel and Fashion Industry.

About the Department

Started in the year 2006, the Department of Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering is running a 4-year undergraduate programme in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering. Since its inception, the Department has grown in leaps and bounds with the state of art infrastructure. Yokogawa Centre of Excellence, KCT-FLUKE Centre of Excellence in Calibration, Siemens PLC Automation Laboratory are some of the major centres operational in addition to Advanced Process Control and Computerised Sensors laboratories. The Department has a team of well qualified, dedicated Faculty members with vast experience in industrial and research background. The Department is involved in active Industrial consultancy services for neighbouring Industries in the field of Automation. Certified Calibration for Electro-Technical/Thermal/Pressure Instruments are some of the prominent consultancy services. Major and minor projects funded by government bodies and Industries are focused on solving industrial needs. Our association with the Professional bodies ISA, ISOI, IEEE, ISTE, IEI and CSI is playing a significant role in enriching the quality of curriculum.

Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering established in the year 2006 is a specialized branch of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, which focuses on the principle and operation of field instruments SCADA, DCS, PLC’S and process control systems which are used in design and configuration of automated systems. These engineers work in industries with automated processes, such as chemical or manufacturing plants, with the goal of improving system productivity, reliability, safety, optimization and stability.

Within a short period, we have established all our laboratories and centres of excellence, which are required for the curriculum and several specialized equipment and software, which help the students to do their real time projects. We have placed our students in core industries like Yokogawa, Bosch, Data Patterns, TVS, Tesolve, Saipem, ECON, etc. Many of our alumni have successfully cracked CAT and GATE to gain entrance into the high portals of higher education. Also, we have our students pursuing their higher studies in US, UK, Germany, and Australia.

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering established in the year 1984 offers One Bachelor Programme in the stream of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and two Post graduate Programmes in the stream of Power Electronics and Drives and Embedded Systems Technologies respectively. The UG and PG Programme’s curriculum and syllabus are periodically reviewed/re-framed in pace with global scenario in the domain of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Our Bachelor Programme curriculum comprises major thrust areas like Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives, Power Systems, Embedded Systems. The Ongoing Government funded Project are MODROB- Modernization of Electrical machines Lab, Grid Connected 200kW solar power station on C & E Blocks roof top and Grid Connected 50kW solar power station on B Block rooftop.
