What is NAAC?

National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is an autonomous government organisation that evaluates and accredits Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) in India for their compliance with seven quality criteria that define academic processes ad outcomes namely How are the Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) graded? The scores are calculated for all the key indicators under each of the seven criteria with reference to the weightage applied to it and the GPA is estimated. After allocating the deserving weightage for each of the seven criteria, the Cumulative GPA (CGPA) is derived as the final assessment outcome. On a scale of 4, if an institution secures a CGPA between 3.51 and 4, it is awarded with the highest Grade A++. If an institution undergoes NAAC assessment for the first time, it is referred as Cycle 1 valid for 5 years. The consecutive 5-year periods are referred as Cycle 2, Cycle 3 etc… What is the significance of NAAC Grading and Ranking?
