  4. Outline a viable road map towards achieving National Mission on Self-Reliance in Defence.
  5. Infrastructure requirements for Industries to innovate, develop and test the products needed for the Defence
  6. Bringing out various funding schemes available from Central & State Governments to support Industries.

Kumaraguru Centre for Industrial Research and Innovation 

Kumaraguru Industrial Research and Innovation Centre (KC.IRI) is a focused Research & Innovation ecosystem at KCT in symbiotic collaboration with Industries for the promotion of industry-specific applied research, innovative product development, advanced learning and skill development programs. KC.IRI is focused on providing research & product development support to Defence R&D organizations / Industries and MSMEs in this region. KC.IRI also conducts Advanced Learning and Skill Development training programs through Industry supported Competency Development Centres in the areas of Product Design, Advanced CAE, Digital Technologies, Embedded Systems, Reverse Engineering and E-Mobility.

FORGE 

FORGE is the incubation enterprise launched by the Coimbatore Innovation & Business Incubator (CIBI), founded with the vision to create & catalyse innovation powered enterprises that harness the power at the intersection of hardware, software, and computing technologies to solve real-world problems, creating economic gains and delivering social impact. The Defence Innovation Organisation nominated FORGE as one of the iDEX Partner Incubators to mentor innovators, entrepreneurs and MSMEs to create, deploy and commercialise technologies and products for the Indian military and defence PSUs.

About CODISSIA Defence Innovation and Atal Incubation Centre (CDIIC)

CODISSIA Defence Innovation and Atal Incubation Centre (CDIIC) is a not-for-profit Section 8 company established under the Companies Act, 2013 on 10th January, 2019 by its founding association – CODISSIA (The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association) in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. It is supported by Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog and Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

Coimbatore is one of the five nodal points of the Southern Corridor identified for the development of the Defence Sector. CDIIC is the first Defence Innovation Hub to be set up in India, following the announcement of the Defence Innovation Organisation set up under iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence). CDIIC is also one of the Atal Incubation Centres established under the Atal Innovation Mission.

CDIIC is a key contributor to the Southern Defence Corridor while also enabling the MSMEs of this region to become import substitution partners to the armed forces in future. It is in line with the Start- up India Movement of the Government of India, to nurture the start-ups and handhold them till they graduate.

CDIIC extends the needed support to start-ups in terms of incubation of their ideas through mentors and institutions, thereby helping them to graduate. This will be instrumental in developing many new entrepreneurs who in-turn would set up their own industries generating employment opportunities to many. CDIIC has commenced its operations in 2019 and has established communications with various vendors, members of MSMEs/SMEs, the DPSUs and the three forces – Army, Navy and Air Force.

About Aerospace Industry Development Association of Tamil Nadu (AIDAT) 

The Aerospace Industry Development Association of Tamil Nadu (AIDAT) was formed in 2016 to promote and develop the Aerospace and Defence industry (A & D) ecosystem in Tamil Nadu. This is led by industry veterans who have many years of experience in the A & D Industry in India and abroad.

The focus of the association is to engage with multiple stakeholders in the community across the world to bring business opportunities for the current and future A & D industries in Tamil Nadu. The objective is to make Tamil Nadu as a premier destination for domestic and global manufacturers of A & D products.

The Aerospace Industry Development Association of Tamil Nadu (AIDAT) works to create an end-to-end ecosystem for Aerospace sector development covering design, engineering and manufacturing of aircraft for civil and defence sector.

About M.Tech. Program in Defence Technology

India is one of the emerging Aerospace and Defence hubs in the world, significantly contributed by Make-inIndia initiatives.  The combined efforts of the government and private Industries will help to achieve India’s goal of self-reliance in defence, generating thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities. M.Tech. in Defence Technology programme is a joint initiative by AICTE and DRDO, in support of Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan or Self-reliant India. It is a unique programme offered by few selected institutions across the country with the support of DRDO Laboratories for the benefit of aspiring engineers, creating better career opportunities in DRDOs, Public Sector Units (PSUs) and private Defence and Aerospace industries. The highlights of the program are:

  • Curriculum and Syllabi designed by DRDO in collaboration with AICTE
  • Courses handled jointly by superannuated / working scientists from the DRDO labs
  • The laboratory courses are offered in coordination with respective DRDO laboratories/Industries
  • Internships/ Projects in DRDO labs / DRDO CoEs, DIAT, Defence PSUs on Defence Industries
