OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAMME
The objective of this Refresher Course is to bridge the gap between the implementation issues of IDSS through Machine Learning. It benefits the researchers to get insight in the field of Machine Learning techniques and get innovative ideas towards implementing IDSS. Also, the participants will be exposed to apply ML techniques for use cases in the areas of Signal & Image Processing, Communications Systems, Medical Diagnostics, etc,

RELEVANCE OF THE PROGRAMME
An intelligent decision support system (IDSS) is a system that makes extensive use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques.  An intelligent decision support system should behave like a human consultant: supporting decision makers by gathering and analyzing evidence, identifying, and diagnosing problems, proposing possible courses of action and evaluating such proposed actions. The aim of the AI techniques embedded in an intelligent decision support system is to enable these tasks to be performed by a computer, while emulating human capabilities as closely as possible. IDSS typically combine knowledge of a particular application domain with an inference capability to enable the system to propose decisions or diagnosis. Accuracy and consistency can be comparable to (or even exceed) that of human experts when the decision parameters are well known. IDSS have been applied to tasks of disease management, fault diagnosis, error detection, severity assessment, social networks analysis and web mining. To implement these IDSSs, Machine Learning algorithms and diverse programming paradigms & frameworks are required.
This Refresher Course is aimed at enriching the skills of faculty and researchers with techniques on Machine Learning and its application to decision making.

ABOUT AICTE
The All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is a statutory body, and a national-level council for technical education, under the Department of Higher Education. The objectives of AICTE are

  • Promotion of Quality in Technical Education
  • Planning and Coordinated Development of Technical Education System
  • Regulations and Maintenance of Norms and Standards.

ABOUT ISTE
The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) is the leading National Professional non-profit making Society for the Technical Education System in our country with the motto of Career Development of Teachers and Personality Development of Students and overall development of our Technical Education System.  Being the only national organization of educators in the field of Engineering and Technology, ISTE effectively contributes to various missions of the Union Government. The strength of ISTE is the strong base it has in technical education institutions in the country. ISTE is having collaboration and MoUs with government organsations and various Universities for the promotion of technical education system in the country.

AICTE-ISTE INDUCTION/REFRESHER PROGRAMME
The AICTE-ISTE Induction/Refresher Programme are essential for teachers in technical institutions for their professional refinement. The other aims for the conduct of these Programme are:

  • Updating knowledge and improving organizational and pedagogical skills of teachers.
  • To update the knowledge by providing an opportunity for interaction and mutual exchange of ideas between teachers interested and/or working areas of specialization
  • Providing an opportunity for teachers to familiarize themselves with modern engineering practices, including the latest technological advances adopted by industry keeping in view the national needs and priorities and relevant technologies.

ABOUT KUMARAGURU COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY
Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT), Coimbatore is an Engineering College started in 1984 under the auspices of Ramanandha Adigalar Foundation, a charitable educational trust of Sakthi Group. The able guidance and patronage of Arutselvar Dr. N.Mahalingam, Founder, Sakthi Group along with the efficient administration of Dr.B.K.Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, the resourcefulness of Shri. M.Balasubramaniam, Correspondent and the foresightedness of Shri. Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent have equipped the college with excellent facilities and well-qualified faculty. Currently the college, as an autonomous institution affiliated to the Anna University, offers 13 under-graduate (B.E., B.Tech.) and 14 post-graduate (M.E., M.Tech., MCA, MBA) programs of study. All the above courses have the approval of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and all the eligible UG programs have also been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). In addition, KCT has also been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission (UGC). 9 of the 15 academic departments have been recognized as research centers permitting research leading to Ph.D. degree by Anna University.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering was started in the year 1987 with the idea of equipping young people with the necessary technical knowledge and professional skills needed to address the challenges in the rapidly growing field of Electronics and Communication Engineering and promoting research in this area. In the world of Smart phones, this department has a very significant role to play. Instigate an eye for detail inside the minds of youngsters and there is they come up with a lot of innovation in electronics. For this mission, the Department is fully equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories such as DSP, VLSI, Optical & Microwave, and RF/Communication. The Department has 15 laboratories, a separate Department Library, a Seminar Hall, adequate class rooms and other facilities. Laboratories are equipped with hardware, computers and software packages such as Matlab, Metrowind, OPTSIM, Xilinx ISE, Cadfeko, and Cadence. To conduct quality research and enable the students to learn experientially in Signal Processing and Embedded Systems, the department has collaborated with Texas Instruments, USA and established a Centre of Excellence (CoE). Also signed an MOU with Keysight technologies, Californea and established a Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology.
