  • AICTE-Sponsored-'Short-Term-Training-Programme-(STTP)'

    About the Programme:

    The utilization of cost-effective material such as Geosynthetics is important to achieve the desired life of the pavement as well as to facilitate their faster construction. Geotextiles had a market share of more than a third in the Geosynthetics market in 2017 and this is predicted to rise to almost 40% by end 2027. The current knowledge level of the Engineering faculties handling these areas is at the basic level and they lack in knowledge about recent developments in the Geosynthetics applications in civil construction fields. In this context this the right time to enhance the knowledge and skills of the Textile Technology and Civil Engineering faculties who are to play a major role in imparting knowledge to the undergraduates so that the employability of the students will be improved in coming years. Apart from this the Research and Development is very much essential to catering the above potential market hence this STTP on Geosynthetics will provide 360° insights on Manufacturing, Designing, Testing and its Applications to the Teaching Faculties.

    Programme Focus:

    To impart knowledge on the recent developments in Geosynthetics. To familiarize and educate the skills on designing, testing and analysis of Geosynthetics. To eye open novel ideas towards research concepts such as soil erosion, landslides, stabilization of soils, Geosynthetics as construction materials in civil engineering projects etc. To educate the participants and give focus for improvement in current road structure so that safety levels and reduction of prone to hazards for beneficial to society. To elaborate concept of Geosynthetics, their manufacture and their behavior and their applications in different civil engineering designs.

  • Infrared (IR) spectroscopy is widely used to determine the structures of unknown molecules, giving a unique vibration spectrum. This technique allows the identification of structural changes in the molecular bonding and chemical shifts and to investigate the surface adsorption of functional groups on nanoparticles and other wide range of chemical applications. FTIR Spectrum Interpretation plays an important role in the scientific field due to its wide range of applications in Identification and chemical characterization studies. Functional Group Region and Fingerprint Region are critical for understanding and interpreting spectral characteristics of various biomolecules through proper Peak Analysis, Peak fitting and baseline correction.

    • Basic understanding of Infrared Spectroscopy in Identification and Characterization of Materials.

    About SPARC Course
    Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India has launched a new scheme, named as, Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) with a view to facilitating global research networks between a higher educational institution in India with global universities.     The course on Engineering Materials in Medicine primarily is for credit and cover 24 hours for a typical 1 credit course. Academicians, researchers,  students and industry persons are invited to participate in this course. The course is offered by Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore, India and handled by a Prof.Seeram Ramakrishna, Director, Center for Nanofibers and Nanotechnology, Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore, Singapore and Prof.Lakshminarayanan Rajamani,  Head, Anti-Infective Research and Principal Research Scientist, Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI), Singapore.

    Dr. Seeram Ramakrishna, FREng is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). NUS is ranked among the top 11 universities in the world. He is the nanotechnology pioneer in Asia. He is an Editor of Elsevier Journal Current Opinion in Biomedical Engineering, and Springer Nature Journal Materials Circular Economy. He received PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK, and the TGMP from Harvard University, USA. He is a Highly Cited Researcher (Clarivate Analytics). Thomson Reuters identified him among the World’s most influential scientific minds. A European study ( placed him among the only 500 researchers with H-index above 142 in the history of science and technology. He co-authored ~ 1,000 SCI indexed international journal papers and 8 books, which received ~ 90,000 citations.

    He is an elected International Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering, UK; Academy of Engineering, Singapore; National Academy of Engineering, India; American Institute for Medical & Biological Engineering (AIMBE); ASME, USA; and International Union of Biomaterials Science & Engineering (FBSE).



    Dr. R. Lakshminarayanan obtained his PhD from the Department of Chemistry at the National University of Singapore in the area of protein chemistry. He was a recipient of the Singapore Millennium Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow and then worked as Research Associate at the University of Southern California. Currently, he is working as Principal Research Scientist at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI). At SERI, his group is working on design of tetrabranched anti-fungal peptides, antimicrobial adjuvants for eye drop formulations, topical delivery of antimicrobial peptides, durable antimicrobial nanofibres and contact lenses and the mechanism of protein aggregation diseases.He has published 95 research articles and 4 Book Chapters with total citations: >300 and h-index: 33 . He is recipient of scientific awards such as Sing Health Publish Award 2017 & 2018, Outstanding Young Scientist Award -2013 in SERI.etc.
