The department of "Computer Technology and Informatics" was established in the year 1987 with a B.E. program. In 1992, the name of the department was changed to "Computer Science and Engineering". Since its inception, the department has progressed with a vision and a strong commitment to developing competent programs, uncompromising standard of excellence and providing the state of art computing facilities and training to students. The department has well equipped computing laboratories with Pentium PCs and a rich repository of software covering a wide spectrum of applications. In addition, it has a separate Advanced Microprocessor Laboratory for experiments involving computers interfaced with real time devices.

Emergent Computing Professionals AECP Association of emergent computing professionals was started under the guidance of Dean of Computer Science (CSE, IT & MCA), Dr.S.Thangaswamy. The Association aims to make the students of get exposed to the outside world exposing their innate talents. It also enhances the students to enrich their technical and as well as their communicational skills. This Association is a platform where you can learn, share & grow together. The Association is looking forward to organize couple of workshops which will help the students to participate in the national level project contest The Great Mind Challenge-10. The Association will also conduct hardware workshops and soft skill development workshops for the students. VIRTUOSO
It is a two-day event primarily focusing on providing a healthy platform for the budding engineers to exhibit their talents with virtuosity. The events will not only focus on the technical and communication skills but also on the managerial skills which will help the students to shape up their career. We provide a platform where we have programming events, online events, presentation events and amusement events. Virtuoso provides you a platform to showcase your innate talents. It has and will always serve as an exposure for the students to showcase their innate talents.

A well equipped and full-fledged library is functioning in the department in addition to the central library to cater the needs of the faculty, students and research scholars. The department library has a total of 1152 books including 147 software manuals. It has current issues of Information Technology related Periodicals for display.
It also has subscription to ACM Digital Library ensuring access to over 30 ACM periodicals and hundreds of Conference Proceedings along with their archives for the last 15 years. This is in addition to the exhaustive online subscription for IEEE and Springer Periodicals at Central Library. Project reports done by final year UG students are stacked in the department library.

Our research activity spans both on basic and applied research focused on interdisciplinary research across streams of engineering, health care and business management. The research group is focused to bridge the gap between academics and industry, thereby enhancing consultancy capabilities.
Ongoing Research Project
A Robust Fingerprint Identification System is ongoing research work, which is a robust person authentication system based on finger print. This system can be used for providing access control to any application which requires high security.
Completed Research Project
A management funded project “Data Mining: Efficient data extraction for e-governance” was completed in the last academic year. The system was designed for extraction of data from websites of relevance to populate the data warehouse. This has been initiated with suitable design of the warehouse and mined reports were generated
