About the Department
Information Technology has widened and diversified in more directions than the pioneers themselves foresaw. India being a nation with the highest number of mobile users offers a very great potential to application developers (for Smartphones). The Department of Information Technology was established in 1998 with the objective of imparting quality education in the field of Information Technology. Since its inception, the department has expanded and grown in terms of dissemination of knowledge within and outside curriculum and skill development activities. The Curriculum review and modernization of the labs are conducted constantly so as to keep the students updated with the latest trends at the global level. The class rooms are well equipped with all modern electronic audio-visual facilities.

Programme Outcomes (POs)
1. Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the IT enabled solution of complex engineering problems.
2. Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated IT enabled conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
3. Design / Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
4. Conduct Investigation of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
5. Modern Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
6. The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
7. Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.

From the HOD’s Desk
The Department of Information Technology lays greater emphasis on training the students to achieve specialised skills in domains of their choice. The Thrust areas are identified as per the market trends and the technologies re identified as per the industry trends. Students are encouraged to pursue their choice of trust area based on their skillset and aspiration. The department ensures a career oriented future through Industry internships, certification courses and workshops. Higher studies is a strongly recommended option for students with research aptitude and the department takes every effort to nurture this by grooming them towards a research career.
Industry designed courses such as Mobile applications programming, Business intelligence and its applications, Building enterprise applications are offered to make our students updated and special care is taken to encourage the young entrepreneurs with start-up ideas. A unique course is offered to the students across the board on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The department records over 95% placements every year.
While we believe in Engineers without borders, we also believe in Engineers with humanity. Our students are encouraged to look around them to identify any social issues and our faculty guides them to develop technology for solving those issues. Winning national awards from Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology and Institute of Engineers (India) have increased the enthusiasm of our students in implementing these assistive technology projects.
